We are back!! And just in time to wish you a very Happy Halloween. Our jack-o-lanterns have all been carved by Cathy and Hannah and were lit after Vigils so that we could enjoy them while it is dark. Our friend, Leroy, each year gives us pumpkins in honor of the day. We hope that it will be a joyous and safe day for all.

Autumn has been inching closer and closer these past two weeks. First it was the Goldfields that blanketed the surrounding hillsides and now the trees are showing off their yellows and golds. It has been a very long time since there was such a profusion of goldfields. To see them is to understand how they got their name!

The ravens are having a feast on the pecans from our trees, cracking them open with their beaks on any hard surface they can find. There is one outside the window right now in search of any that have fallen. Then there are the squirrels… They love the black walnuts and stuff so many in their mouths that their cheeks drag on the ground. A season of plenty.

We hope your summer was good. Sr. Hannah arrived at the end of June and brings much joy to the community. There have been some health issues among us, especially for our Miri. She is doing better and we hold her recovery close in our prayer.

At the end of April our faithful canine friend, Shana, went to join Casey and her other friends who went before her. She was her sweet self right up to the last. She also was faithful to her daily watch out front. She is missed and loved. But happy and beyond pain now. So now we have to protect ourselves from ravens, squirrels and whatever might lurk out there to threaten us — without her help. We’re not as good as she was, but we try…

We will try to have regular postings in the journal now, so please check in.
